GALLERY FYI

There are a few things you should know about the Photo Gallery. We are using Coppermine's great Photo Gallery program to display images which you can share with the world. To View the Gallery via full screen mode, Click the 'Come out of this Frame' link above. This window will rest under the gallery Window. To close the Gallery and return back to Headquarters, first make sure you sign out of your Photo Gallery Account, and then close the window by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right of the window, then click on the 'Go to Headquarters' link.

You can also view the Gallery in this Frame but then the Field of View is limited. Try both ways to see which way you like to view it best.

FYI is here to explain a few things about Coppermine. You can create your own photo gallery in the Program, where you can upload your own pictures. All photos uploaded must first be approved by the Webmaster before he will post them.

Two things you must remember when using Coppermine.

  1. Creating a User Name in Coppermine. You do that by 'Registering' with Coppermine. You can use your Krenn Papers Member Name since this is the way other Patrons of the Krenn Papers will be able to identify you. Or choose another, as this program is independent of the Main area of this Website. Any other questions regarding this section or any section on this Website, please post them to the Webmaster in Web Mail.
  2. Once you have created an account and filled out a Profile for yourself, you should create at least one Album for yourself. You already have your Personal Gallery, but you'll need to add an Album to your gallery. Here are a detailed directions on how to create Albums. Once you create an Album(s),
  3. Two User Modes exist in your Coppermine Account: Each User of Coppermine has two modes to his account. User Mode and Admin Mode. User Mode is for general perusing of your Gallery; Admin Mode is for Uploading and Editing of your Albums. I'll explain...
  4. Uploading files to Coppermine: You must always be in 'ADMIN MODE' if you wish to upload images to a gallery other than your own. The 'other than your own' galleries have been created by Admin to follow the theme of this website. However, in Member Personal Galleries, you are free to upload into. There is more information on Uploading here.
  5. Members Personal Galleries are created when you Register with Coppermine. This is named always by your User Name.
  6. In order to upload pictures to your Personal Gallery, you first must create an Album as stated above - you can create as many Albums within your Personal Gallery as you wish. If you don't create an Album, you will not be allowed to upload files. Name your Albums what you wish, but be respectful of others and choose words that will not offend.
  7. Albums should be military-related, but this is not a rigid rule. We also allow your own pictures in your personal Gallery. This is the single most difficult part of Coppermine, but once you get the hang of it, it will be easy. If you still can't create a gallery, ask Admin to make one for you, by giving us the name of your Album, your Krenn Papers User Name and send us Email.

You can also send Admin a Winzip file with your images, or single images using our File Upload Feature, and we'll place them in your gallery for you. If you choose to do it this way, you must include your screen name for Coppermine, if your User Name is different than your Krenn Papers User Name in the Email.

Any other questions - direct them to Admin in Email.

Creating Albums:

I will try to explain how to Create Albums and then how to Upload files to them here.

  1. Register as a User to Coppermine, filling out your profile information; try to use your Krenn Papers Member Name as your User Name.
  2. Now you are ready to create an Album. You can only create an Album in your Personal Gallery. Switch to Admin Mode. Look for a button that says "Create/Order my Albums" - click on this button
  3. You will see a List Box with "New Album" in it. To create an album, click "New" and you'll see a text field with "New Album" showing in it now, and you'll also see 'new album' showing in the List Box.
  4. Change the name of the "New Album" to one you wish it to be called, and then press the "Apply Modifications" Button. You have just created your Album. The click takes you to a "Continue" button. Click it, and you'll be taken to the Home Position.
  5. Your newly created Album will be in the Sub-heading of your User Album.
  6. Clicking the "Continue" Button, You will see a list of Galleries which Admin created, and then also one called, "User Galleries" - click open this Heading, and you'll see a list of other User's Galleries and their Albums inside each Gallery.
  7. You'll also see your own, which you just created.

Now comes the time to upload files to your User Album(s) which you just created.

Uploading Files to your User Gallery Album(s):

  1. Since you just created an Album, you can now click on the "Upload File" link on your User Navigation Menu (hover over the "Home" Icon if it isn't showing), and you'll see a dialog of 5 fields; read the info on this dialog, and then browse on your computer for the files you wish to share in your Album(s).
  2. Do not sent files with a ".GIF" extension; Coppermine can't accept them, so don't send Gif files. Just JPG, PNG or BMP files only.
  3. When you have selected up to five (5) files, you can click on 'Continue' Button. They will take a bit to upload, but if you re-sized your images to around 640 x 480 or smaller, they will not take that long to upload.
  4. Once they are on the website, you will be told to click 'Continue' again.
  5. Now comes writing a brief File description, and General Comment about the file. First you'll see a drop-down list box with your albums in it. Select which Album you wish to place the new uploads in BEFORE you press the 'Continue' Button for the files.
  6. Limit your text in the Descriptions to as few words as you can get the description made plainly. Look at other files on the Site to get it down pat. There is only a limited amount of space for descriptions.
  7. You're done!
  8. If you wish to send more, keep pressing the 'Upload File' link and follow steps 1 - 7 until you are finished.
  9. If you are finished, then you can edit descriptions, etc., while you are in Admin Mode, look around in other areas of 'Admin Mode' before you change back to 'User Mode.'
  10. If done, then switch back to User Mode, study the program out or log off.
